RMIT University PhD thesis ‘Money, Financial Capability and Well-being in Indigenous Australia’
Vinita’s PhD thesis explores the understanding of money amongst Indigenous communities in Australia, and how this understanding influences Indigenous world-views on financial capability and well-being. Indigenous Australians are over-represented amongst the most financially excluded community groups, and those with lower financial capability. This exclusion exacerbates other chronic socio-economic disadvantage. She argues that adopting strengths-based approaches to the design of financial inclusion efforts, in particular acknowledging the role of culture, could better engage and empower Indigenous people to confidently use money to achieve their own goals.
